SPIEL Essen 2026: The world's largest board game fair is back
From 22 to 25 October 2026, Messe Essen once again turns into Europe's largest living room: every year, more than 200,000 visitors from all over the world come together at SPIEL Essen to try out new board and card games, meet designers and publishers, and simply enjoy a weekend trip all about playing together. For many families, clubs and gaming fans, SPIEL has long been a fixed date in the calendar – and of course for us here in Essen too.
What awaits you at the fair
Hundreds of exhibitors from around the world present their latest releases at SPIEL, from small connoisseur games to big family classics. Games are tested, discussed in detail and often played right up until the doors close. If you're travelling with children, you'll find dedicated areas for family games, and clubs and gaming groups love to use the weekend for a trip together. The halls are huge – a good reason to look forward not only to the fair itself, but also to relaxed breaks and evenings afterwards.
The right place to stay for your SPIEL weekend
Especially if you're arriving with family, friends or your whole gaming group, you'll quickly notice: a single hotel room gets cramped.
