Essen isn't a classic holiday destination – which is exactly why accommodation here works differently. Most guests come for Messe Essen, for a work assignment, for the university hospital or for a weekend of Ruhr culture. A holiday apartment in Essen is almost always the better choice than a hotel room: more space, your own kitchen, a washing machine – and from the second or third night simply cheaper.
Location matters: the U11 takes you from the main station to Messe Essen and the Grugahalle in around ten minutes. If you come by car, look for a parking space – around the fairgrounds it gets tight on event days and parking there costs around €12 per day. Our apartments are in Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr, many with their own parking or underground space.
Booking early pays off: for major events such as SPIEL, the Essen Motor Show or Security Essen, accommodation near the fairgrounds is often gone months in advance. You'll find the current dates with our trade fair accommodation. Yes, since 1 August 2025 the city of Essen has charged an accommodation tax of 5% of the room rate (capped at €9 per night). Business-related stays are exempt upon proof – we're happy to help you with the required form.
Depending on the apartment, it's 2.5–5 km to Messe Essen. The U11 takes you there from the main station in around 10 minutes, and parking at the fair costs around €12 per day.
