Eating in Essen – more than just a play on words
If you're staying in one of our holiday apartments in Essen or Mülheim an der Ruhr, you have a choice in the evening: cook for yourself in your own kitchen or head out and discover the city's culinary side. Essen has plenty to offer beyond the classic currywurst - although that certainly deserves its firm place too.
Around Rüttenscheider Straße: Essen's most popular night-out strip
Rüttenscheider Straße, affectionately known as the "Rü", is the first address for a relaxed evening. Cafés, restaurants and small bars line up one after another - from Italian cuisine and Asian fusion concepts to hearty home-style cooking. A stroll along the Rü is almost always worth it, especially if you're looking for a bit of buzz and good food after a day at the trade fair.
For business travellers: quick, good, uncomplicated
When time is short, it doesn't have to be complicated. Essen has a good selection of restaurants that reliably serve up a good meal quickly, whether at lunchtime during the week or after work - handy if you need something between two appointments or after a long working day before heading back to the holiday apartment.
For families: relaxed instead of stressed
When you're travelling with children, it's a relief to find places where things can get a little louder and where you don't have to watch the clock. Many restaurants in Essen are prepared for this and offer children's plates or at least dishes that go down well with the little ones.
