This southern district on the Ruhr has a historic centre with cobblestones, half-timbered houses and the striking Basilica of St. Ludgerus - one of the oldest churches in the Ruhr region. Around the market square and Heckstrasse you'll find small shops, cafés and restaurants, perfect for winding down after a day at the trade fair or a long day at work.
The Ruhr right on your doorstep
The Ruhr flows right past the town, and the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path leads you past meadows, boathouses and little jetties. Whether it's a short evening walk, a jogging route or a bike ride towards Kettwig and Mülheim - here you can escape the bustle without really leaving the city. For families with children, the riverside promenade makes for a relaxed outing too, where feeding the ducks and enjoying an ice cream go hand in hand.

Werden is also home to the Folkwang Universität der Künste, which gives the district a pleasantly lively yet never hectic atmosphere.
